The Voice of CCNU On the morning of April 25, the 9th Counselor Salon of 2025 and the Specialized Series Training on Mental Health Education—"Skills for Counselors' Heart-to-Heart Talks""—were successfully held in the first-floor auditorium of the Science Hall at Central China Normal University. This salon was organized by the Student Affairs Department (Graduate Affairs Department) and the College Student Mental Health Education Center, and hosted by the School of Mathematics and Statistics. The event was led by Lei Guanghui, a registered psychologist of the Chinese Psychological Society, a member of the College Student Psychological Counseling Committee of the Chinese Mental Health Association, a director of the Hubei Mental Health Education and Counseling Research Association, the deputy director of the Clinical and Counseling Psychology Committee of the Hubei Psychological Society, and the deputy director of the Mental Health Education Center at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. More than 140 full-time and part-time counselors from the university attended the salon, which was also joined by Yu Lixia, the deputy director of the Mental Health Education Center; Wang Lu, the deputy secretary of the School of Education; Liang Fangyong, the deputy secretary of the School of History and Culture; Chen Xiaogang, the deputy secretary of the School of Music; Liu Qian, the deputy secretary of the School of Fine Arts; Ma Ying, the deputy secretary of the School of Physics and Technology; and Yang Kejun, the deputy secretary of the School of Mathematics and Statistics. The salon was hosted by Yu Lixia.

Lei Guanghui first introduced the training with several discussions, such as "What are the common problems in counselors' heart-to-heart talks?" and "What are your expectations for the conversation?" He interacted with the counselors and, combining their daily heart-to-heart talks, the counselors shared the problems and perplexities they encountered in their actual work.

The training was conducted from four theoretical perspectives: "Cognitive Behavioral Theory," "Brief Solution-Focused Theory," "Person-Centered Theory," and "Family Counseling Theory." By integrating rich theoretical knowledge and various types of case studies, it led the counselors to reconstruct "heart-to-heart talks." By revisiting the "goals of heart-to-heart talks," he suggested that counselors focus their conversation goals on "self-awareness and understanding" and "uncovering personal potential and resources." This helps students establish a correct self-awareness and understanding, effectively tap into their potential, and better adapt to college life. At the same time, attention should be paid to the methods and wording used in conversations to break through didactic education and achieve a "leveraging" effect. Finally, Lei Guanghui, drawing on practical experience, provided reference cases for common conversation scenarios such as academic burnout, interpersonal conflicts, career confusion and the like. This helps counselors adjust their conversation direction, formulate conversation strategies, and achieve effective communication and high-quality conversations.
